Working 6m Above Ground:
Insights for Industrial Offices
We had the privilege of partnering with Embark Labs to design and build their new office space. Like many industrial offices, the project presented both opportunities and challenges. The high ceilings allowed us to create a design that emphasized openness, flexibility, and scale. At the same time, the build demanded unique construction solutions that went beyond the requirements of a conventional office.

Structural Reinforcement for Partitions
With ceiling heights up to 6.3m, drywall partitions alone are not sufficient to remain stable. Additional metal structural supports were required to ensure durability and safety. This structural reinforcement provided the necessary backbone for the partitions, preventing warping or instability over time.
Elevated Access and Safety
Working at 6.3m ceiling height required scissor lifts, scaffolding, and work-at-height certified MKS workers. Safety was our top priority, with daily briefings held each morning before elevated installations such as drywall, ceiling and electrical works began.

Managing Last-Minute Requests
Towards the end of the project, the client requested roller blinds for the windows. While this addition enhanced both comfort and usability, it required additional coordination. To accommodate scissor lifts, all workstations had to be carefully dismantled, moved, and later reinstalled once the ceiling pelmets and blinds were completed. These late changes added cost and time, but with proper planning we ensured the work was delivered smoothly.

Key notes for future industrial office projects:
-
Plan for high ceilings – include structural supports early.
-
Prioritize safety – use proper equipment and certified workers.
-
Stay flexible – allow budget and schedule room for changes.
All in all, it was a great opportunity to work with Embark Labs. Together, we delivered a workspace that is open, functional and safe.
